Aberdeen Energy Talks # 3 2025

From Discovery to Redevelopment: The Affleck Field – Curtis Bracher

The Affleck field is located in the UK sector of the North Sea within block 30/19a. The field was discovered in 1975 by the 30/19-2 well. A total of eight exploration and appraisal wells were drilled on or around the structure, confirming the oil and gas accumulation within the Ekofisk and Tor formations of the Lower Cretaceous Chalk Group.

The field was initially developed by Maersk, with first production in 2009 via two horizontal producers tied back to the Janice FPU. The host facilities ceased production in May 2016, and production from Affleck was suspended. At the time of Janice’s cessation, the Affleck wells had produced a total of 4.3 MMstb of oil and 10.9 Bscf of gas.

NEO Energy took over operatorship of the field in 2020. Recognising the significant remaining potential in Affleck, NEO Energy took FID in 2022 to redevelop Affleck through to a new host facility (Judy) in collaboration with Harbour Energy’s Talbot development. First production from the Affleck redevelopment project was achieved in January 2025. This presentation will give an overview of the Affleck field from discovery through to successful redevelopment.
