Vol. 22

Issue 1

Conversations, that is the first thing we think about when looking at this issue of the magazine. Around 50 people contributed to it, and many of those we spoke to personally over the phone or on Teams. Sometimes just for a little insight on a particular technical issue, and sometimes to hear about an entire career.

Our regional focus this time is in Southeast Asia. This is reflected both in the cover story about the Andaman Sea, and our portrait interview with Aqilah Amir Jamalullail from PETRONAS. Aqilah tells about her humble background, trying to make ends meet as part of a large family, and the way she was and still is determined to make a difference.

In recent years, the Andaman Sea has produced some intriguing exploration results. Andy Racey and Andy Taylor present an update on the wider area and its further potential, while Rob Chambers reflects on the development scenarios of the gas finds.

Finder Energy, in collaboration with Searcher, takes the reader to Timor Leste to discuss the development potential of a series of discoveries and how reprocessed seismic resulted in an uplift of imaging quality. At the same time, PSS GEO, in their first-ever foldout article, discuss the interesting outcomes of a geothermal exploration study and how this can be used to accelerate finding new targets.

Our returning sections host a range of new insights from oil in igneous rocks in Oman, an overlooked mechanism to explain hydrocarbon leakage from reservoirs, and how tracer technology is being pushed to the limit for geothermal energy projects.

And finally, a warm welcome to Juan Cottier who has written his first column for the magazine in what promises to be a great and original series of geoscience insights and more!

Is it a true conjugate fracture set?

Conjugate faults or fractures are a set of shear fractures that formed simultaneously under the same stress conditions. According to Andersonian Fault Theory, this could involve a series of left-lateral Read More

Fault-valve behaviour of petroleum traps

When evaluating fault-bound traps, it is common practice to map around-the-fault pathways through diligent seismic interpretation, juxtaposition diagrams, and 3D structural framework construction. It is also common practice to address Read More
