Basement Discovery for Hurricane
Basement specialist Hurricane Energy announced in December that it had made a significant fractured basement discovery with well 205/26b-A on its Lincoln prospect, about 160 km north of Scotland. Hydrocarbons were encountered about 520m TVD below structural closure, and gas chromatography and logging-while-drilling data indicate a very significant hydrocarbon column of at least 660m TVD.
Hurricane believes that the size of the oil column indicates that its pre-drill resource assessment of approximately 250 MMb recoverable oil for the Lincoln prospect may be conservative. Additional analysis of wireline and sidewall core data will be undertaken to examine this further.
Lincoln is a few kilometers south-west of and on trend with Hurricane’s 2010 Lancaster basement discovery, which found light (38° API) oil flowing to surface from fractured basement and has 2C contingent resources of 207 MMboe.
