At this years AAPG Annual Convention and Exhibition, Halfdan Carstens, GEO ExPro Editor in Chief, received the AAPG Journalism Award for his work with the Norwegian magazine GEO.
According to the bylaws, the Journalism Award is given to “a person in recognition of notable journalistic achievement in any medium which contributes to public understanding of geology, energy resources, or the technology of oil and gas exploration”.
Previous winners of the AAPG Journalism Award include John McPhee, Ron Redfern, James A. Michener, David Attenborough, Stephen Jay Gould, Walter Alvarez and Simon Winchester.
Founded in 1998, GEO is a popular scientific magazine that covers most aspects of the geoscience disciplines, including petroleum geology, mining, and engineering geology. The present magazine, GEO ExPro, is to a large extent built on the same principles as GEO, the main difference being that the focus is on petroleum geoscience.
