The first full week in 2020 starts with a major event on Tuesday, the official opening of the oil and gas field giant Johan Sverdrup on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), almost 9,5 years after the Lundin operated discovery well 16/2-6 was drilled. 425.4 million Sm3 o.e, more than 2600 million barrels, will be produced from the field (current plans).
Thereafter, the biennial Nordic Geological Winter Meeting takes place in Oslo, Norway on Wednesday till Friday. A large petroleum session takes place there, targeting mainly offshore NW-Europe with a strong focus on the NCS. Especially the Barents Sea area gets a lot of coverage but also talks on e.g. CCS (several), Italy, and Indonesia are found among the more than 40 presentations.
On Thursday, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate holds its annual sum-up of the Shelf 2019 in Stavanger, Norway. This year, the new Director-General Ingrid Sølvberg will give the annual presentation which summarizes the past year on the Norwegian shelf. She will also present investment and production forecasts for the next five years. The former Director-General, Bente Nyland, recently stepped down after holding this position for 12 years.
We are also expecting news from the exploration drilling, but, we can’t make any promise on this matter.
Next week, at the 14-15th of January, the 2019 APA announcements are expected at the “Sandefjord conference“, where the new Norwegian Oil and gas minister Sylvi Listhaug (FrP – Progress Party) attends the conference (access by invitation only) held by the Norwegian Petroleum Society in Sandefjord, Norway. We are also wondering if the Norwegian government will kick off the 25th concession round this spring. Time will show.
