What was the main reason for you to attend the NCS Strategy conference?
With a shift of consciousness (and policies) towards new energy for the net zero targets, my main interest in attending the conference was to understand the industry’s take on the future of exploration and the strategy for portfolio development. The programme also included the voice of policy makers, operators and contractors, so it was a well-represented platform to understanding where the industry is heading towards.
What was your favourite presentation and why?
It is very hard to pick a favourite, since a lot of good points were raised all the way through.
A common theme throughout was that there is less appetite for frontier high-risk exploration, which raises a very good point about what can be done to promote it, such as providing incentives and a stable framework or state for taking more risks.
Another interesting point for me was the openness from operators to present their strategies, and majors like Equinor acknowledging the depleted portfolio and stepping up investment in seismic to reverse the trend.
What is your role in SLB?
I am currently working in SLB as a Geosolutions Business Owner for Scandinavia. Geosolutions in SLB essentially helps clients resolve subsurface challenges, be it seismic/non-seismic processing, imaging, or reservoir characterization through services and products to gain the most out of the data.
As a business owner, my role is to identify new markets, develop ideas (new or recycled) to help customers through technology, collaboration and partnerships.
In what roles have you worked before and where?
I have been lucky to have a lot of opportunities with different roles and locations in SLB.
I started my career in Egypt as a Field Geophysicist for the Land acquisition group and this was followed by a move to Houston to work with the imaging group. In Houston, I was selected for an 11-month intense Area Geophysicist University course held by SLB, after which I worked as an Area Geophysicist (providing technical input and support for processing projects) in the UK.
My next move brought me to Norway, where I started as an SLB in-house consultant at Equinor for Imaging projects and software support. Following this, I worked in operations as a team leader in the Stavanger Geosolutions Center, leading a team of geophysicists working on various 3D /4D projects. Subsequently, I landed in my current role as Geosolutions Business Owner for Scandinavia.
How is life in Norway?
Personally, I am a big fan of Norway. Life here is calm, quiet and beautiful. You only realise how Norway spoils you when you start travelling outside.
