How new seismic and old core has shed new light on the Zechstein play along the Mid North Sea High

Presenter: Thomas Houghton, Aberdeen University

Ongoing academic research studies in the Centre for Energy Transition at the University of Aberdeen are helping to derisk exploration of a hitherto overlooked Upper Permian, Zechstein Group carbonate play in the Southern North Sea. Uniquely situated between a Permian seaway and an intracratonic basin, the Orchard Platform (Mid North Sea High) faced considerable environmental stress which encouraged the deposition of rare carbonate systems that are only now revealed using privileged access to high-resolution property 3D seismic data.

Followed by a North Sea Well Slot Update – brought to you by Westwood Global Energy.
A selection of cores illustrating the Zechstein play will also be displayed at this event.
