ONE-Dyas finds oil in IJssel appraisal well

First appraisal well on the IJssel discovery in Dutch offshore suggests drilling campaign was a success.

Drilling appraisal wells doesn’t happen every day in the Dutch sector, where new finds are scarce. Let alone an appraisal well on an oil discovery.

However, according the NLOG website, ONE-Dyas did find oil in the F06-08 appraisal well on the IJssel oil/gas discovery in the northern Dutch offshore.

IJssel was discovered early 2021 through drilling F06-07. Although the company has not released information about the stratigraphic position of the reservoir, nor the volumes, it is thought that the Upper Jurassic Scruff Greensand is the main candidate.

As can be seen from the cross-section below, the Scruff Greensand is significantly shallower than the Middle Jurassic reservoir of the producing F03-FB field just north of IJssel.

N-S cross-section through the F03-FB field and the IJssel discovery in the northern Dutch offshore. The cross-section has been entirely re-drawn on the basis of a seismic section published by Bouroullec et al. (2018). The stratigraphic position of the F03-FB reservoir units is schematic and does not represent reservoir thickness. The well locations are projected and the white lines are not indicative of terminal depth.

Because well F06-08 only found oil – F06-07 proved both oil and gas – it is likely that the well tested the northern part of the discovery where the gas cap doesn’t extent to.

Even a small volume in IJssel should already make an economic case for tying it back to F03-FB.
