Together with partners Shell and Total, Equinor takes part in the Northern Lights project that submitted an application for an exploitation permit for a subsea reservoir in September 2018. As reported by Bente Nyland, Director of the NPD at her presentation of the Shelf in 2018 this was in response to the first licensing round for injecting and storage of CO2 under the seabed announced by the NPD in 2018.
Now the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has announced that it has awarded the area offshore close to the Troll field. Equinor will now do a full feasibility study for a CO2 storage.
The goal is to realise a cost-effective solution for full-scale CO2 capture and storage in Norway, given that this will lead to technology development in an international perspective.
