Welcome to the new GEO ExPro website. We hope you enjoy the updated multimedia-rich interface that blends our usual brand of must-read geoscience articles with the latest interactive maps, superb photographs and illustrations, and other digital media features. The site has been designed to provide a rewarding user experience, making use of video and high resolution images to bring life to the landscapes and visually rich datasets that are found in our regular columns and special feature contributions. Other features include the full back catalogue from our archive and as usual you can download GEO ExPro as a pdf or the special iPad editions to access when offline.
The cross platform nature of the new site means that you will now be able to enjoy reading your favourite petroleum geoscience magazine wherever you are, on whichever device you have to hand. This development has required the work of a growing team of professionals, too numerous to mention here, whose continued efforts are realising the latest chapter in a journey that began 10 years ago (more on that below).
The Editors Patch feature is a slot that will be given over to editorials from me and from our team of analysts and other contributors. Over the next few weeks and months, as we settle into our new multimedia enhanced home, we hope that you will return here to keep in touch with developments at GEO ExPro.
So, it brings me great pleasure to be able to kick off the Editors Patch series with a reminder that 2014 is a year of important anniversaries:
- 100 years ago (1914) – Outbreak of the First World War in Europe.
- 75 years ago (1939) – Classic novel ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ by John Steinbeck published.
- 50 years ago (1964) – IBM launches System/360 mainframe computer, which dominated the market for the next decade.
- 20 years ago (1994) – Death of Richard M. Nixon, 37th President of the United States.
- 10 years ago (2004) – GEO ExPro publish the first edition of this innovative magazine at the EAGE conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Yes, you read that correctly, GEO ExPro is 10 years old this year and we think that is something worth celebrating! This promises to be an exciting year at GEO ExPro and we want to include you in our celebrations, so keep watching this space for more news on that later in the year.
