Where is Hamlet?

Besides a program packed with talks on recent discoveries on the NCS, you will also be able to put your knowledge to test during the NCS Exploration Conference next month.

Don’t scroll down! Look at the below seismic section, kindly provided by CGG, first. Do you know where on this line Neptune and partners drilled the Hamlet discovery well recently?

One of the many benefits of being a geoscientist is the ability to look at seismic data and think about how basins were filled, uplifted and tilted. During the upcoming NCS Exploration – Recent Discoveries Conference, taking place 8 & 9 June in Oslo, you can participate in a quiz during which we’ll show a range of seismic lines, again kindly provided by CGG, such that you can test your knowledge of the subsurface of the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Before the quiz takes place at the end of the first day of the conference, you will be able to refresh your memory on a few key prospects drilled across the NCS in previous years.

In one of the morning keynotes, Equinor will not only touch upon the recent discoveries made in the area north of Troll such as Røver North, Toppand and Apodida, the company will also discuss the development concept envisaged for these finds.

The Barents Sea will also feature heavily on Day 1, with Lundin discussing the work done in the area where the Bask prospect was drilled last year and Vår Energi focusing on the Rødhette discovery in the vicinity of Goliat.

On top of that, Equinor will discuss the current exploration efforts near the Johan Castberg development and Tor Veggeland will take us back to how the Wisting discovery was made years ago – a prospect that many people initially didn’t believe in.

Back to seismic lines

Let’s get back to seismic lines. Please see below the line you saw above, but now including wells. The Hamlet discovery can be seen on the right, on top of a prominent fault block. A similar setting is probably envisaged for the upcoming Ofelia well that will be drilled soon through 35/6-3S. Exciting times for the Cretaceous Agat play and Neptune and partners.

Hear more about Hamlet at the Conferencenext month, and expect more seismic lines as well!
