New 4D survey at UK giant field

Apache has awarded Shearwater GeoServices a 4D survey at the Forties Field in the UK North Sea.

Shearwater announced on May 18th that it has been awarded by Apache to do a 4D seismic survey with 3D extension over the Forties Field on the UKCS in the North Sea.

We are very pleased to see a Shearwater Qmarine 4D crew returning to the Forties Field for the fourth time,” said Irene Waage Basili, the CEO of Shearwater GeoServices.

“The project adds to the North Sea 4D program we announced earlier this year and we continue to demonstrate industry leading technology and experience in 4D seismic.”

The Forties oil field is the largest oil field in the UK sector of the North Sea, first discovered in 1970. Production started in 1975 and at the time, the field contained an estimated 1.8 billion barrels of oil. Apache acquired Forties in 2003.

The one-and-a-half-month project will be conducted by the Amazon Warrior starting in Q2 2020. In January, Shearwater announced multiple 4D surveys to be performed in the 2020 North Sea season.
