Ithaca Energy confirmed in their operations update for 2020 that they will drill the Fotla prospect in P2373 just south of the Alba and Britannia fields on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) of the North Sea.
The target interval for the gas prospect is remobilized sands of the Eocene Caran Formation, which also form the principal reservoir in the Ithaca operated Alba oil field. Ithaca has also mapped out another prospect in the same block, named Fortriu. Britannia produces gas and condensate from deepwater, marine sandstones of a Lower Cretaceous age, by joint operator Britannia Operator Limited (Conoco and Chevron).
According to Ithaca, the prospects are supported by strong AVO seismic anomalies with very good conformance to structure. Both prospects were identified on 3D seismic with modern reprocessing using similar techniques used to delineate proven oil at the Alba and Chestnut fields.
The Fotla prospect is planned to be drilled in the third quarter of 2020. Partner in the license is Spirit Energy.
