Siccar Point Energy is drilling two high potential wells during their 2019 drilling campaign: Blackrock and Lyon.
Blackrock
The blackrock prospect is part of license P 1830 140 km north-west of Shetland located directly between the Rosebank and Cambo oil fields. Siccar Point acquired its operated interest in the P 1830 licence in 2017 by acquiring OMV UK Limited. Shell UK Limited joined the current Blackrock licence holders, Siccar Point and Suncor Energy UK Limited, last year in a deal with Siccar Point which included a 30% non-operated interest in Cambo.

The Blackrock prospect sits on the Corona Ridge structural feature. The reservoir targets are the same as in the Rosebank (read also “Equinor majority owner”) and Cambo fields with the main targets being the Tertiary Colsay sands and the deeper Upper Jurassic sands. The Colsay sands are extensive fluvial/marine deposits which are inter-bedded with lava flows.
Lyon
Immediately after the Blackrock well, Siccar Point will move to the north of Shetland to drill the material Lyon prospect. Lyon is part of license P 1854, 150 km north of the Shetland Islands. Siccar Point acquired a 100% operated interest in the licence from the takeover of OMV (U.K.) in January 2017. In November 2017, Siccar Point announced a farm-out agreement with Ineos.

Lyon is located immediately west of the volcanic Erlend High at the edge of the Flett Sub-Basin. It is a strong seismic amplitude anomaly within Tertiary Flett sandstones which have been deposited along the edge of the Erlend High. The prospect geometry is partly structural and partly a stratigraphic pinch-out. Lyon is a gas prospect estimated to contain 1-3 trillion cubic feet recoverable according to Siccar Point.
If Lyon is successful it would be large enough to form a new gas-hub development in the area. Existing smaller gas discoveries in the Lyon area such as Tobermory, Bunnehaven and Cragganmore would all be suitable tie-back candidates into the Lyon gas hub. Currently, these discoveries are stranded due to size and lack of infrastructure in the area.
