The topic of this year’s conference is “Recent Advances in Exploration Technology”. For “dummies”, we might add, but this is not the truth. Rather, the intention is to present technological progress in a manner that is understandable for geoscientists who are using new technology for the purpose of defining new plays and finding new prospects.
Therefore, numerous examples of how technological innovations help improve imaging will be presented from the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea.
Major players on the NCS – including Equinor, Aker BP and Lundin Norway – will present technology, data and insight based on their strong focus on the use of technology for increased success ratio.
While geophysics (seismic, CSEM) almost have a monopoly on the term technology, the 2019 NCS Exploration conference will also cover what is needed to improve the understanding of the petroleum system. One session will thus be devoted to the petroleum system of the western Barents Sea by following the trails of the oil and gas emplaced in the Alta, Gotha and Johan Castberg area from their original source rocks, through their carrier systems and into the current reservoirs. Some light will also be shed on the Wisting petroleum system further north and compare it to this region. Rather than a series of conventional presentations, this session will aim at delivering the full story through several short presentations from all the speakers and with contributions from the audience in an interactive session.
