In the UK last week, we saw the first spade in the ground for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm-project. This large project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor, where 3,6 billion Gigawatts (GW) will be produced from a total of three offshore wind farms, enough to supply 4,5 million UK homes with energy.
Halfdan Brustad, vice president for Dogger Bank in Equinor, said: “Commencing this onshore work is an important and exciting milestone for the successful delivery of Dogger Bank.”
Also, last week Fugro published the news of their contract on the geotechnical site investigation contract for the Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden Wind Farm Zone on the Dutch offshore sector. Here 700 Megawatts (MW) will be produced from 2022 next to the existing Gemini Wind Farm (600 MW).
For comparison, onshore Norway, the on-going construction of the Fosen Wind power plant (in Norwegian), with owners Statkraft/ Nordic Wind Power and Trønderenergi, will generate 1 GW, enough to produce the electricity needed for 180 000 Norwegian homes. This will be the largest onshore wind power plant in Europe.
