10th Anniversary Photo Competition Results

Celebrating 10 years of GeoExPro we launched a Photography Competition. See the winning entries here.

Finally, the results are in! Votes have been counted, prize winners have been notified and we can now reveal the successful entrants in our 10th Anniversary Photo Competition.

The judges tell me that the entries were of a particularly high standard throughout so congratulations and thank you to everyone that took part. We hope you enjoy these winning entries as much as we have.

Landscape Category

  • 1st: Miguel Ángel – Fissure type craters of Lakagigar, Iceland. The 1783-4 eruption of basalt lava and clouds of poisonous hydrofluoric acid and sulfur dioxide had catastrophic affects of global proportions.

  • 2nd: Piyaphong Chenrai – The Mount Tongariro crater complex, Mount Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand: looking from the rim of Blue Crater across Central Crater towards the very active, eponymous Red Crater, with the secondary cone of Mount Ngaurahoe behind.

  • 3rd: Miguel Ángel – Bathers at Itzurun Beach, Zumaia, Spain seemingly unaware of the geological drama that surrounds them!

Industry Category

  • 1st: Dr. John K. Hall – An eerie light illuminates the lone figure of a marine geophysicist researcher and hovercraft, Gakkel Ridge, Arctic.

  • 2nd: Nikolay Zhukov – Sleeping giants guarding the gateway to the underworld? Photo taken at the Bear Creek Nickel Quarry, Norilsk, Russia.

  • 3rd: Roderick Perez – Rig derrick viewed from unusual angle.

Overall winner

The winning photo will be printed on the next GEO ExPro magazine cover and Miguel Ángel also receives a £100 Amazon voucher.
