In an appraisal campaign that is quite unique in the North Sea just because of its pace, ONE-Dyas has now also proven oil in the second appraisal well on the IJssel discovery in the northern Dutch offshore.
The first well (F06-07) was completed in January 2021 and found oil and gas in what is presumably the Upper Jurassic Scruff Greensand Formation. This well was likely drilling the very crest of what seems like a fairly low-relief closure, as the two subsequent appraisal wells only reported oil.
However, the volume of gas in the crest is probably minor, as the NLOG website now classifies IJssel as an oil field.
A resource estimate has not been released, but given the number of wells now completed it seems likely that there is scope for development. This is confirmed by the NLOG website, which states that the F06-IJssel discovery will be “In production within five years.” With the infrastructure of the Neptune-operated F03-FB field very close-by, the easiest route to development is probably a tie-back to F03-FB.
All in all, it looks like IJssel is a success story and one of the very few oil developments in the Dutch sector as of late.
