Exploration success north of Troll

Operator Equinor and partner Wellesley announce the discovery of commercial oil at Toppand.

In press releases issued today, operator Equinor, partner Wellesley (50%) and the NPD announce that the 35/10-7 S&A well in PL630 targeting the Toppand prospect has resulted in the discovery of between 20.7 and 32.7 MMboe of recoverable oil.

Well 35/10-7 S encountered an oil column of about 75 metres in the Middle Jurassic Ness and Etive Formations, of which a total of 68 metres was sandstone with moderate to good reservoir properties. The underlying Oseberg and Cook Fm sandstones were water-wet. The oil/water contact was not encountered in the well. However, based on pressure data, the estimate is that it lies at a depth of about 3,303 metres below sea level.

The 35/10-7 A appraisal well, which was drilled in an updip area of the accumulation, encountered 67 metres of sandstone with good to moderate reservoir quality, with an oil column of about 60 metres in the Ness and Etive Formation. The Oseberg Formation has a total of 48 metres of sandstone of moderate reservoir quality, with an oil column of about 30 metres. The oil/water contact in the Oseberg Formation has been proven at 3,290 metres below sea level.

In their press release, Wellesley states that the discovery is considered fully appraised and commercial and that development will likely be via Troll infrastructure.
