The results of the Brasse East exploration well and Brasse Appraisal side-track were announced already in January by operator Faroe Petroleum (Read “No oil in Brasse East”). In summary the Brasse East prospect (well 31/7-3S) was dry but encountered thick, very good quality Sognefjord reservoir sandstones. Brasse appraisal seemed at first to meet the pre-drill expectations.
Unexpected reservoir quality and OWC
The NPD comes now with some more information after all the data acquisition and sampling has been done. The objective of well 31/7-3 A was to delimit the reservoir and determine the northern part of the Brasse discovery. The well encountered Sognefjord formation reservoir about 75 metres thick with a total gas column of 15 metres and an oil column of 47 metres, with effective reservoir of only 12 metres. The reservoir is of mainly poor to moderate reservoir quality. According to Faroe the net-to gross is lower than expected. The oil/water contact is about 20 metres deeper than in the discovery well, 31/7-1, which was also unexpected.
Faroe says they will now revise the uncertainty range for the total gross volumes of recoverable hydrocarbons in the Brasse field and an updated reserves range will be reported in due course. The estimated reserves (before the last appraisal well) are between 8.9 and 14.6 million Sm3 recoverable oil equivalents (o.e)(NPD) or according to Faroe 31 mmboe net of which 25 mmbbl oil and 34 bcf gas.
