The TAQA-operated P15-20 exploration well on the Dutch Continental Shelf (NLCS) last autumn was completed just before Christmas, TAQA confirmed in an e-mail to expronews.
The wildcat was drilled from the P15-G satellite platform, part of the larger P15 complex.
Although gas was found, production from this well proved not to be economically viable, according to a spokesperson from TAQA, therefore, they decided to abandon the well.
TAQA has no further plans for any exploration wells in the Dutch North Sea at this stage.
According to the TAQA web page, the P15 and P18 infrastructure is situated 35 km north-west of Hoek of Holland. The area holds one oil production field, the Rijn Field, and natural gas production facilities including a central complex, several satellite production platforms and subsea completions. Condensate, oil and natural gas are transported to shore by pipelines.
The P15 platform is also a hub for third party treatment and processing of oil and gas. Fifteen fields in the Dutch North Sea tie-in to P15 to separate, treat and send oil to the BP refinery in the port of Rotterdam and gas directly to the Dutch national grid.
